COLORS: In terms of color choices, I usually suggest thinking about the decor colors in the rooms in which you plan to display your photos and work from there. Patterns are wonderful. But try to strategize them so one subject wears the bolder pattern, and other subjects wear solid colors pulled from the bolder pattern. Adding textures in solid, complementary colors adds interest and can make your portrait extra special. Pinterest is a great resource for choosing family outfits. Just search “family photo outfits.”
CONSIDER WEATHER: Consider the weather for our session in your clothing choices, especially for kids. If it’s likely to be cold and their “cute” outfit isn’t warm enough to keep them comfortable, taking away warm jacket to reveal their outfit can leave them miserable and uncooperative for shots. Consider planning on cute warmer clothes like sweaters, dressy jackets, etc that can be photographed.
AVOID LOGOS: It’s a good idea to stay away from printed words or logos on clothing as they don’t photograph well.
GLASSES: For the day of the session, transitions-style glasses can be a problem because they transition to sunglass mode while outdoors at sunset. If you like the look of yourself or your subjects with glasses on, try to wear a pair that is not transitions-style or consider taking them off altogether for the photos. Anti-glare coated glasses are the best type because glare can make it impossible to see a subject's eyes properly outdoors.
WEARABLE TECH: If you don’t like the look of your smartwatch or other wearable technology in your portrait, please don’t wear them to your session.
EMPTY POCKETS: Try to keep your pockets empty during our session because lumpy pockets seem accentuated in portraits. I bring a rolling cart for my gear and am happy to wheel your items along with me as we go around the location. But if you’re more comfortable leaving these items in your locked car or at home, please plan accordingly.
I provide basic props such as blankets or crates for sitting on. But my style is to focus on the beauty of my subjects in a natural setting with little to no props as distraction. That being said, if there is a special item or two you’d like to incorporate into your session, please let me know because I am happy to work it in. But generally speaking, I do not provide or shoot themed setups, elaborate props, etc.
It’s easy! Just contact me and I will get you booked. I will get your basic contact information and details about your subjects to be photographed and together we will decide on a date/time. After that, I will send you a digital invoice and photography agreement for you to sign. Lastly, I will send you an informational email containing session location details and meeting information. Please note that your session is not confirmed without receipt of the session fee but is fully refundable up to 24 hours before your session date/time.
Energetic kids, families, and couples at outdoor locations at sunset have completely captured my photographer’s heart. Because of this, I focus my work in this area and do not photograph events or weddings at this time. Yes, I do photograph newborns, but it's important to note that I do not do in-home sessions. Nature is my studio, I do not have an indoor newborn-centric studio which is the style of many newborn focused photographers. With this in mind, I have shot several outdoor newborn sessions but they are generally done in a minimalistic nature on a blanket or in the arms of a parent, sibling or other family member. Depending on your vision, these details could impact your decision making. Keep in mind the time of year with the weather, etc. for your newborn. If you are looking for the type of newborn photos in which your baby is posed with props in a studio, I would not be the right fit for you. But if you love the idea of simple photos showcasing your new baby in the delicious sunset along with mom, dad, and siblings, etc. I'd love to work with you. Absolutely! I love working with four-legged furry family members. My standard session includes up to four subjects. A subject is considered a person OR a pet. If you have more than four subjects, no problem. You can add more with an additional subject fee. Here are a few tips for bringing your pet. First, If you plan to take photos without your pet, you may want to bring an extra person to handle your pet while you aren't posing with them. Next, you need to keep dogs on leashes, so it’s important to think about the color of your dog's leash in the photo. Neutral colored leashes photograph much better than neon or bright colors or patterns which can be distracting. And last, if bringing a pet, consider bringing along their favorite squeak toy. I can borrow it to get their attention and look at the camera for shots. Pets are always wonderful additions to our portraits.
I shoot my sessions at one of several outdoor locations in the Pflugerville, Hutto, East Round Rock area. They will take place about an hour or so before the sun sets in order to get the most golden, flattering light. I have several preferred locations and will preselect one for you based on several factors such as time of year, lighting, and other suitable scenery.
No, you do not. A formal print release will be included with the standard session fee that will allow you to take your digital images to be printed at the lab of your choosing. But if you are looking for some knock-your-socks-off, high quality prints and products, I encourage you to give my lab a try and order directly through your gallery. I have been told by several clients that once they have used my lab, they will never go back to their previous photo processing option. The vibrant, luxurious finish is a game changer. Because I only shoot outdoors, I am regularly watching the weather and keeping close tabs on anything that could impact my photography sessions. But despite my best efforts, I can’t change a less-than-ideal forecast. If I see there is a chance of weather impacting our upcoming session, I will reach out to you a few days beforehand and offer for us to play it by ear or reschedule altogether, if we can both accommodate. I’d rather you have the ability to plan on a cooperative session rather than stress for the touch-and-go aspects of Texas weather. Also, due to the nature of the equipment I bring, I cannot shoot in even a little bit of rain. If we encounter sprinkling during our session, we will have to stop and reschedule. Rest assured, I will communicate and work with you in the days leading up to our session and if it looks like things might be iffy, we will come up with a plan. And remember, any sessions rescheduled by me are not subject to the $50 cancellation fee.
Your entire session fee is fully refundable up to 24 hours before your photo session. If you need to cancel your session after that time, it will be refunded minus a non-refundable $50 cancellation fee.
After your session, I go to work editing your photos to ready them for release to you in your online gallery. Once you receive your gallery link, all of the images you see have been individually edited and ready for immediate download and/or purchase. My turnaround time is lightning fast, always within a week (and usually less!) from the time of our session.
I shoot with a mirrorless Canon R6 camera body and depending on the situation, I have an arsenal of professional lenses to suit the environment and the mood of the shot. I'd say that the majority of the time, either my 85mm or 35mm lenses are on my camera for the type of portraiture I do. I typically shoot in burst mode (snagging several continuous shots in a fraction of a second!) which means I'm able to capture a smile or a special moment in the briefest of time which is especially helpful for little ones who might only give a split-second of a look. I've had enough experience in this that I'm confident that I can provide a gallery of great shots for you to choose from when we're done.
